How to Configure Outlook to use an MSN Web-based Account

How to Configure Microsoft Office Outlook 2007

Follow these steps to configure Outlook 2007 to connect to your MSN Web-based e-mail account:
1. In Windows XP, click Start, and then click Run. Copy and paste (or type) the following command in the Open box, and then press ENTER:

2. If you see the Pick a category view, click User Accounts.

If you do not see the Pick a category view, go to step 3.
3. Double-click Mail.
4. Click E-mail Accounts. The Account Settings window appears.
5. Click Microsoft Exchange, POP3, IMAP, or HTTP, and then click Next.
6. Select the Manually configure server settings or additional server types check box, and then click Next.
7. Click Internet E-mail, and then click Next.
8. On the Add New E-mail Account screen, type the following setting information:
a. In the Your Name box, type your name as you want it to appear to recipients.
b. In the E-mail Address box, type your e-mail address. For example, type yourusername@msn.com.
c. In Account Type, select HTTP.
d. In the Password box, type your MSN password.
e. Select the Remember Password check box, if you want to save your password.
f. If the Require logon using Secure Password Authentication (SPA) check box is selected, click to clear it. If the Require logon using Secure Password Authentication (SPA) check box is not selected, leave it clear.
9. Click Next, and then click Finish.
When you have completed these steps, try to send yourself an e-mail message to make sure that Outlook is set up correctly. When the e-mail arrives, try to reply to it.

If the e-mail is sent correctly and you receive the reply correctly, Outlook is configured correctly.

How to drag address information to Outlook

It is possible to drag individual or groups of Windows Address Book entries to Outlook. Below given some steps to do this, follow these steps:
1. On the Start menu, point to Find, and then click Files And Folders.
2. In the Open box, type .wab, and then click OK.
3. Double-click the Windows Address Book file from which you want to move addresses.
4. Start Outlook if it is not already running.
5. Resize Outlook so that the Windows Address Book and Outlook are visible next to each other on the screen. Verify that the Outlook Contacts folder is visible in the resized Outlook window.
6. Select an entry from the Windows Address Book. Drag it to the Contacts folder. A new Outlook Contact form is created with the information from the Windows Address Book entry. Click Save and close.
Note You can press SHIFT and select contiguous groups of entries, or press CTRL and select non-contiguous entries. You may want to do this for selected contacts or small groups.

How to fix Error 'Unable to find the e-mail server'

This behavior can occur because Outlook cannot resolve the Simple Mail Transport Protocol (SMTP) and Post Office Protocol version 3 (POP3) names of "mail" from the ICS client if you use a Microsoft Windows-based computer that is configured as an ICS client in a small network and if the ICS host computer is connected to an Internet service provider (ISP) through a cable modem.

To resolve this problems following methods you can use....

Method 1: Microsoft Office Outlook 2007

1. On the Tools menu, click Account Settings.
2. Click your Internet e-mail account, and then click Change.
3. Type the fully qualified domain names (FQDN) of the POP3 and SMTP servers under Server Information of the Internet e-mail service of each ICS client. For example, type lh1.rdc2.on.wave.home.com instead of mail for the POP3 entry on the Servers tab of the Internet e-mail service.

NOTE If you do not know the FQDN of the POP3 and SMTP servers, contact your ISP to obtain this information.
4. Click Next, click Finish, and then click Close.


Method 2: Microsoft Office Outlook 2003 and Microsoft Outlook 2002

1. On the Tools menu, click E-mail Accounts.
2. Click View or change existing e-mail accounts, and then click Next.
3. Click your Internet e-mail account, and then click Change.
4. Type the FQDN of the POP3 and SMTP servers under Server Information of the Internet e-mail service of each ICS client. For example, type lh1.rdc2.on.wave.home.com instead of mail for the POP3 entry on the Servers tab of the Internet e-mail service.

NOTE: If you do not know the FQDN of the POP3 and SMTP servers, contact your ISP to obtain this information.

5. Click Next, and then click Finish.

To determine the correct name of the e-mail server, have an e-mail sent from the host and verify the header information for the server name in the Received or Message-ID sections.

4. In File To Import, type the path and file name of the file that you want to import, or click Browse to navigate to the file, and then click Next.
5. In Select Destination Folder, click the folder that you want to import to, and then click Next.
6. Confirm that the destination folder is correct, and then click Finish.

How to Export Text Data

Use the following steps to export text data:
1. On the File menu, click Import And Export.
2. In Choose an action to perform, click Export to a file, and then click Next.
3. In Create a file of type, click to select a format for the file that you want to export, and then click Next.
4. In Select folder to export from, click the folder you that want to export, and then click Next.
5. In Save exported file as, type the path and file name for the file that you want export, and then click Next.
6. Confirm the action, and then click Finish.
